Lets first discuss - What is actually mental strength?

Mental strength can be described as the cognitive and emotional skill of re-framing negative thoughts and adverse circumstances. Being mentally strong, mentally tough and therefore mentally fit helps you to resist and fade out both internal and external influences that weaken your self-confidence, self-esteem and therefore your mental well-being, health and performance. Mental health and strength is equally as important as physical health and strength. The ultimate goal is always to be mentally, physically and emotionally strong, healthy and fit. Only if we have and maintain all three we can complete the ultimate life success and happiness puzzle. We have to put in diligent and consistent work on a daily basis to strengthen our body, mind and soul. To be on our best!

Being mentally fit will give you always a huge advantage and is the complete set of practices that enables you to maintain and improve your mental state of mind. Mental toughness helps you stay focused in crucial and critical moments which we can often times witness when elite athletes pull off the impossible in the last minute. Mental strength and toughness helps you perform under pressure and keep going no matter what.

Let me ask you a question. How do you respond to negative events, negative emotions, stuff ups, critical situation or setbacks? Are you solution orientated and start thinking of solutions immediately? Or are you the pathetic little whinger type and whinge about your bad luck and bad circumstances for ages?

In fact mental strength balances the extreme and let you shine in difficult situations of all kinds. It’s our ability to function effectively and sustainably in the face of challenges, obstacles and stress. All of that without sacrificing our own mental and physical health, sense of humor, sense of self, and mental and physical well-being. It’s closely related to the very important art of resilience.

Our mental toughness and strength helps us to resist being derailed by negative events and thoughts. Just like physical strength which can be improved and developed so can that mental muscle be strengthened and improved.

As I always say in all my talks, videos and blogs – Do every day something hard, challenging and inconvenient and your life will be easier. Watching TV for hours or playing Computer Games all night are obviously none of the challenges I’m talking about. But Cold Showers, Ice Baths, Fasting and intense physical exercise are good examples just to make my point clear here 😊. To get into the important habit of doing tough, inconvenient and challenging things on a regular basis in order to toughen up and get mentally, physically and emotionally stronger is priceless and can’t be over exaggerated. Just to mention regular Cold Exposure on more time which will turn you into a *Mentally strong Monster*!

Mental strength helps you resist paralysis and push back against the uncontrolled forces of fear and anxiety. When you build mental strength, you’re better able to re-frame the anxiety and fear and therefore bounce forward and take action. Ask yourself the helping and intelligent questions - What’s the worst-case scenario? And how can I prepare for it to maximize my chances of success or survival? Many experts believe that is motivating and beneficial to picture the worst case scenario in order to avoid procrastination and therefore to succeed

It is well known that people who are mentally strong have a high internal locus of control. That means that they believe that they have control over their circumstances and that there will always be a solution. A way out so to speak. That sense of control motivates them to keep trying, growing, and looking for solutions. To solve the puzzle so to speak. Resilient people don’t give up easily. They actually Never give up, Never. Never Ever, Ever Give Up like Winston Churchill said so wise in his famous Speech many years ago.

High levels of Mental strength also bring the discipline and intrinsic motivation needed to prevent and beat procrastination. People that are mentally tough and strong have an easier time getting started in the first place and then to keep going no matter what until the tasks are completed or the puzzle is solved.

One of the major advantages of being mentally strong and resilient is that you’re less stressed by the things life throws at you— large or small, significant or insignificant. You learn to see adversity as an opportunity to grow, improve and succeed big. Even when big things happen, you’re able to re-frame them and have faith and trust that you’ll get through them. After all, you’ve gotten through big things before. You get into the winning mindset that you can literally conquer everything.

Being able to manage your stress levels is one of the most effective ways to improve your overall health and well-being. Lower stress levels are associated with lower risk of depression, anxiety, heart disease and several other physical health conditions.

That’s it for today my dear friends.
